Reid is almost crawling!

Reidy-monster is now 9 months old, and is just starting to push up on all fours.  Here’s a funny 1 minute video of him trying hard to crawl, in our living room.

Awesome 4th of July Weekend

July 9th, 2008

We had a fun family weekend at home over the Independence Day weekend.  Thursday afternoon, Kristi and the boys went to the farmer’s market, and got lots of great veggies and fresh fruit for us.  Then we went out for dinner and ice cream!  Since I didn’t have work on Friday, we just hung out at the house and ran a few errands, but then we took Graham and Reid to see the new Disney movie WALL-E.  It was their first time at the movie theater, and they had a blast!

Afterward we just grabbed dinner at Chick-fil-A since it’s right there next to the theater.  Sadly due to the rainy evening we didn’t get to experience any fireworks, but that was okay since the guys could only concentrate on WALL-E!

Saturday, Graham and I got up and went out to grab donuts and coffee for breakfast, which was cool.  We mainly just hung around the house in the morning, but then we packed a picnic lunch and headed to the pool for the rest of the day.  We hung out until well after naptime, and then came home and cooked baby back ribs and fresh corn for dinner.  Graham even had a small ear of corn.

Sunday we really did lay low, basking the glow of all the fun we’d already had.  We took some pictures of the baby birds living in our yard this summer.  Then as a special surprise, we took the boys to a baseball game in the late afternoon!  We have a triple A team the next town over, and it’s great to head to the ballpark for an afternoon game.  Our team started out slowly, but we got to see a home run and several nice hits.

Take me out to the ballgame!

This was another first for the kids.  We really had fun although it was super-humid.  Graham loved seeing the mascot Wool E. Bull, the games that were played between innings, and of course he had a thousand questions about the game and what was going on.  Be sure to check out all our pictures from the game.

We thankfully got seats under the covered area behind home plate, because it started pouring rain in the middle of the 6th inning.  That was okay, because it was bedtime about then anyway.  We bought a new hat for Graham, and we headed home and got to bed!

Big-time family fun weekend!

Reid’s thoughts on sleeping

June 30th, 2008

For a long time now, we’ve wrapped Reid up at naptime and at night in The Miracle Blanket©, which I lovingly call the `Baby Straight Jacket`.  We bought this thing when Graham had such bad colic and acid reflux; it helped calm him and keep him snuggly at night.  Anyway, it has helped Reid too for a long time.

The problem is, he’s getting too big for it, now that he’s 6 months old.  According to our pediatrician, he’s old enough now to put himself to sleep and stay asleep at night.  So we began Ferberizing him help him adjust to sleeping on his own.  It ain’t going so well.  The first night, little guy screamed and cried for more than 4 hours.  We’re on night 3 now, and he’s getting progressively better (thank goodness).

Reid let us know how he feels about the process just today, on the way home from lunch!

We’ll keep trying.

Reid is 6 months old!

June 13th, 2008

Happy half-birthday to Reidy Monster!  He just had is six month doctor’s checkup, where the little guy weighed in at 16 lbs 14oz (50th percentile), 25.5″ (25th percentile), and head circumference of 41.7 cm (10th percentile).  We couldn’t find Graham’s measurements from his six month check-up, but right now, Reid weighs less than Graham did at 4 months!

Reid rolls over!

June 8th, 2008

We’ve been keeping a close eye on Reid’s milestones, primarily to see if he is a late bloomer like Graham or if he’s more typical of babies you read about.  He seems to be following the average schedule for doing new things.  He is above average in terms of his leg strength; the kid can basically stand up on 2 legs, needing only a parental hand for balance.

Anyway, this weekend he rolled over by himself, from his tummy to his back 3 times!  And he tried to roll from his back to his tummy, but he couldn’t quite make it.
