Forgive and forget

March 1st, 2008

Today Kristi was telling Graham that she was sorry for something that she had done (yes, I’m sure Graham was tragically wronged in some way), and he responded:

Mommy, I forget you.

I’m getting on your what?

The other day Graham was trying to tell me to stop doing something, and he (obviously) repeated something he heard someone else say:

Daddy, stop that! You’re getting on my nose!

I just laughed and laughed…

Daddy and Phoebe at home

February 4th, 2008

This morning, Graham went to school and I helped get him and Reid all loaded up into the car to go. I usually give him a hug and kiss and tell him to have a great day. Today I wished him well by saying, “Have a good day at school, Graham!”

And he promptly replied:

“Have a good day with Phoebe, Daddy!”

Choking: not all bad

Those of you who know us well know that we’ve always had a tough time getting Graham to eat anything other than chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, and quesadilla.

So we’ve been working hard at getting him to try new things, but it isn’t going that well. He’s hesitant to try anything new although he has tried (and appears to be okay with) carrots, noodles, cucumber, and peas. Thank goodness he’s ingested a vegetable or two!

Anyhow, the other night we were having roast beef and fingerling potatoes. Kristi chopped up a few tiny slices of potato for Graham to try. We told him it was just like a french fry, etc. to get him to take a bite. Of course we teased him with the promise of dessert, too — a powerful option. He finally did it after a great deal of cajoling…

…And proceeded to gag on it. Now this is nothing new; he’s done it before. But this time, his eyes started watering and he barfed his entire dinner out on himself and Kristi while I was holding Reid. And of course he started crying, the barf started coming out of his nose, and his booster seat and the floor was a mess.

We finally got him calmed down and stripped down in the kitchen. As I was cleaning him up and wiping puke and food chunks from him, he said (with his mind obviously on some kind of dessert), `Daddy, I liked it!`

Well it makes sense…

I should’ve started this a long time ago. Graham says some really funny things, as do all toddlers and young kids. However, some of them require you to think about what the child must be thinking. Anyway, Graham has a book about nighttime animals. There’s a picture of a bat in a cave, sleeping upside down hanging from the top of the cave.

So we went into Reid’s room to watch him sleeping in the crib, and Reid’s head was in the opposite direction from how Graham used to sleep in there. So when Graham saw this, he said:

“Daddy! Reid is sleeping just like a bat!”

Took me awhile to figure out where he got that one…
